Gibson’s volumes replaced the older collections as the standard English reference for the Hebrew, Moabite, Phoenician and Aramaic inscriptions, with fuller commentary and readings that reflect a further half-century of epigraphic work.
Why both editions are listed on this site
Because a citation should say which reading it is following, and readings change. Where the older and newer editions agree, nothing turns on the choice. Where they differ — and on damaged inscriptions they do — the difference is itself part of what a reader needs to know.
Listing only the modern edition would hide that. Listing only the old one would be worse.
